Training Session for Open Mind 2: Creating Timelines, Web pages, and Videos
Welcome to this training session! The objectives of this session are:
to explore using Open Mind 2 to create timelines
to export an Open Mind 2 timeline as an html file
to convert an Open Mind 2 timeline into a video
to explore a few other technology resources
Let's get ready to learn!
1. Open Explorer and go to Diigo: http://www.diigo.com/user/lexington1
2. Locate the online resources you will use today. In the tag cloud to the right, click on this tag: om2
3. Click on tistraininglex1>>Open Mind 2 and then minimize the window.
4. Open Open Mind 2 and minimize.
5. Open the instruction sheet.
Creating Timelines:
Open Mind 2 has 5 map views. You may create simple timelines by choosing the timeline view. If you wish to to include more in-depth information in your final presentation, however, it's a good idea to begin with the mind map view and later switch to the timeline view. Step 1: Create your mind map, insert branches and sub-branches, add any text or other items (For this training session, toggle open the instruction sheet and follow directions.)
Note: If you want your timeline entries to be color-coded in any way, it needs to be done on the mind map view.(General Tab > Properties > Text Color)
Be sure to add text and perhaps a picture to the text note editor of the Main Subject if you want a nice looking title page when you publish. Use the multimedia catalog to add pictures to the text note editor of each branch if you want images on your web page. Your finished map may look something like this:
Step 2: Convert mind map to timeline:
View > View Map as > Timeline Step 3: Insert dates into the chart that appears. The information will be found on the attached document:
(Right click and choose "Open in New Window" )
Double click in each cell to add date. Dialog box will appear. Other Details:
Page Settings: General Tab > Properties (Set background color, viewing duration bar)
Toolbar Icons: Flat Display (main categories) and Level Display(details)
Publishing Options: 1. Export to a web page:
File > Export to > HTML > Quick Export (Browse for desired destination.)
To zip file and add link to Lex-Connect:
(Right click and choose "Open in New Window" ) 2. Create a video using Photo Story 3:
File > Export to > PowerPoint > Quick Export
Save PPT, then do File > Save as >At bottom of box change Save as type to JPEG File Interchange Format, Save
Open MS Photo Story 3, begin new project, import pictures, and import these slides.
Students may then record narration for the presentation before finishing the project as a .wmv file. 3. Create a video using Jing: Jing (free download)
Quick export to PPT; use Jing to capture PPT slides. (You will need to manually click through slides instead of viewing show.)
